EVALUATIONS FOR THERAPEUTIC SERVICES

Welcome to Kentlands Kids!  We are a private psychotherapy practice offering confidential services to kids, teens and young adults. To begin the process please contact Dr. New by email or phone. We typically begin with a confidential parent intake meeting, focusing on the most important issues for you and your child/teen. Our treatment goals are collaborative and often geared toward helping clients cope with difficulties, and reduce individual and family stress. Older teens (14 and up) sometimes prefer to meet first for an introductory session, with or without their parents present, prior to the parent intake meeting.

A COMPREHENSIVE, CONFIDENTIAL EVALUATION CAN HELP ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT THERAPY AND STRESS MANAGEMENT FOR KIDS, TEENS, AND YOUNG ADULTS.

Does your child have difficulty sleeping? Are they feeling stressed or over-scheduled? Is your child too active or too sedentary? Does she or he have problems with moodiness, following directions, keeping organized? Does your child explode with anger? Are worries preventing them from participating in life? Are they isolating themselves or spending too much time on their phones? Kids and teens want to live their best lives, but may be challenged by feelings of inadequacy in their personal domains including friendships, activities, sports and academic life.

We work together to address concerns that clients have about family communication, stress and anger management, mood, behavior, social and academic functioning – in a safe, supportive and confidential environment.

ADJUSTING TO CHANGE

Adjusting to small or major changes and learning to adapt and acclimate to a new environment or routine can be another reason clients to seek therapy. Whether common developmental transitions or unexpected curve balls – learning how to be adapt to one’s environment or new situation can help clients feel more resilient and able to cope.  Whether these changes are due to school and college transitions, moving house, new siblings, separation, divorce, and remarriage – these transitions can add stress in to a family system.

Dr. New can also provide parent consultation regarding child behavior management and school consultations.  Dr. New has conducted private custody evaluations, reunification therapy services and has been a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) since 2009.  Dr. New works collaboratively with family lawyers, mediators, parenting coordinators and families to provide ethical and confidential services for families going through parental separation and divorce.

Collaborative, cognitive-behavioral and dialectical-behavioral techniques can help – ask how!

EVALUATIONS FOR ACADEMIC, ATTENTION AND LEARNING PROBLEMS

Dr. new can provide a comprehensive assessment of your child’s cognitive and academic abilities and learning style. This can help in diagnosing attention and learning differences and provide data for accommodations or interventions your child might need at school or college.

Results can also help clients decide on school placement, special education services, referral for a medical evaluation, home and/or school-based interventions and accommodations, as well as collateral services (e.g., speech, OT, tutoring). Dr. New provides services for executive function coaching and planning/organizational life coaching for kids, teens and young adults.

Dr. New also consults with families and schools by reviewing records and previous evaluations that can help students understand their learning profile, as well as assist in advocacy for your child’s educational and academic needs.
